Lily Brooks-Dalton, the 2023 Fiction Runner-up for The Light Pirate, brings readers a deeply moving and meditative story that explores environmental change, resilience, and the search for beauty amid loss. Set against a slowly transforming Florida landscape, her novel reflects on community, survival, and adaptation in the face of climate uncertainty.

Joining her in conversation is Pulitzer Prize–winning author and journalist Gilbert King, renowned for his powerful narrative nonfiction examining race and injustice in the American South. His landmark work Devil in the Grove earned the 2013 Pulitzer Prize and was also a Dayton Literary Peace Prize Runner-up.
